Let’s talk about the Littles

I had a thought after my interview with Brandi; a lot of times, all of us have a little pockets of time within our day that we squander. It might be scrolling on our phones, it might be getting caught up in a TV show or a YouTube program, but it’s there. Start making a note of your downtime – when are you still? Or better yet, when are the kids engaged? Start trying to take that time to do little things for yourself, be at skin care, hair care, or anything Self adjacent.

As for the Littles, what better time than now to start including them in skin care? When you’re moisturizing, give them a squirt of lotion and teach them how to lotion themselves. When you wash your face, they can wash theirs. Soon, it can be something you can do together, and by the time their bigger, skincare and self care will be a way of life for them. And you too.

Beautifying: One Neighborhood at a Time

“If it falls your lot to be a street sweeper, sweep streets like Michelangelo painted pictures, sweep streets like Beethoven composed music, sweep streets like Leontyne Price sings before the Metropolitan Opera. Sweep streets like Shakespeare wrote poetry. Sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will have to pause and say: Here lived a great street sweeper who swept his job well. If you can’t be a pine at the top of the hill, be a shrub in the valley. Be be the best little shrub on the side of the hill.”
- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The Doctor Is In

I hope we did a good job of making this conversation a little easier to stomach. Losing a loved one is hard, and losing a loved one to an illness such as cancer cuts even deeper. But the most important take away I think myself and Dr. Gary both got from it was the importance of keeping up with your self exams as well as your doctor exams. And if you don’t feel like you’re getting the proper help, get a second opinion. I know it’s scary, but nowhere near as scary as finding out it’s too late.

care of yourselves friends.

Bedtime Stories

I got to be honest, I’m struggling. And as much as I enjoy my solitude, I can’t truly enjoy it because I’m still waiting to see what life is going to truly look like once cities are able to truly open up again and my work life either resumes or takes on a new shape entirely. I worry about bills. I worry about falling into debt because I have worked so hard to stay out of it. I worry that once everyone starts getting out into the world again, they’ll go back to being cruel.

I realize of course, this is all anxiety. I try to take it one day at a time. But it’s exhausting. So right now I’m in the stage of soothing; I’m trying to slow down. I hope if you are in a similar state, listening to this episode will help when you are sitting in your quiet.

Wipeout

Listen: it would be so easy right now to start taking shortcuts. We’re exhausted, we have 1000 questions, we don’t know how things are gonna change from one week to the next. But even in times like this it’s important to hold on to the good routines. And even though using make up wipes can seem convenient and quick, there’s gonna be a lot of hard work to undo some of the damage they caused. So the best shortcut you can do is doing it right in the first place. if you find yourself in a situation where you have to use them, be sure to make up for it as soon as you can.
